We look forward to welcoming all Grade 7 students and their parents to our College Open Day on Friday, 28 February 2020. Please report to our College reception for refreshments by 13:00. Registration will take place from 12:15pm.

Entrance Tests

Please note that all students attending our Open Day will be expected to write a 45 minute English test and a 45 minute Mathematics test from 13h30 to 15h15. These tests do not require preparation or study and are based on work covered by the end of Grade 6.  All students are expected to attend in their current school’s PE or sports kit with takkies.

All students will be given a drink and snack at the conclusion of their activities and parents are invited to join us for drinks and canapes in the Functions Room between 17h00 and 18h00 at the conclusion of the Open Day programme.

Parent Presentations:

Whilst Grade 7 Students are involved in an Amazing Race experience comprising of fun academic, cultural and sporting activities, parents will have the opportunities of attending TWO informative presentations by our College staff. When you register for the Open Day you will be asked to choose TWO of the following presentations:

  • Academics: IEB vs NSC?

A small and independent assessment body is necessary for the fostering of creative, critical and independent thinking. Chantal Lourens, our Academic Head, will tell you about the diverse subject combinations offered by Reddam House Umhlanga as part of the Grade 10 to 12 curriculum; the benefits of an IEB National Senior Certificate as well as Reddam House’s support teaching programme that is key to academic success.

  • Sport and Sports Science

First class sporting facilities, expert coaches, the unique offering of Sports Science as part of the curriculum and a focus on centres of sporting excellence are all designed to help our students reach their sporting potential. Director of College Sport, Ross Veenstra, and Deputy Headmaster, Gavin Belman are ready to tell you more.

  • Co-education

A co-educational school is fundamentally different to a monastic school in the values we espouse and encourage. A co-educational environment is designed to ensure that every child feels validated and is raised to respect and work alongside members of the opposite gender. Come and hear more from Debbie Boosey, Deputy Head in charge of Student Affairs.

  • EGD, Technology, Design and Coding

Not many schools can boast of a thriving and dynamic Engineering, Graphics & Design department. Kyle Beach, teacher of EGD, is keen to share his passion for his subject with you as well as talk through the new subject of Coding & Robotics that was introduced into our Grade 8 and 9 curriculum this year.

  • Accounting, Business Studies & Entrepreneurship

Tammy Lailvaux is passionate about her subject specialisation of Accounting. However, she would also like to share other aspects of how Reddam House Umhlanga strives to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and understanding of the world of Commerce.

  • Outreach and Internationalism

Reddam House’s motto is “We Shall Give Back.” Come and hear from James Taylor, Head of Grade 10 & 11,  as to how we live out our motto through the rich and rewarding Outreach Programme as well as our International Exchange Programme.

  • Cultural and Arts Programme (Drama, Music, Art and Dance)

A passion for performance sets us apart from other schools.  Come and hear from Farla Ribbonaar, our Director of Clubs & Culture, about our rich and rewarding Visual Art, Dramatic Art, Dance and Music programmes
